Founded in 2022, The Fish Tank emerged as a safe harbor for LGBTQ+ individuals navigating unstable housing, employment discrimination, and legal uncertainty. As a trans-founded nonprofit proudly rooted in Colorado, our work is driven by lived experience, empathy, and a deep commitment to systemic change. What began as a local initiative quickly expanded into a dynamic resource center offering housing support, legal guidance, and workforce access tailored specifically for queer and trans lives. We believe that dignity is non-negotiable—and our mission is to build access, not just awareness.
At our core, we are a trans-led, community-first nonprofit grounded in liberation, inclusion, and safety. Led by advocates who understand the unique barriers facing transgender and gender-diverse people, we challenge injustice with action. From direct aid to strategic advocacy, every program we offer is intentionally designed to remove the roadblocks that have historically excluded queer people from stable housing, economic equity, and civil protection. As an affiliated intake partner of the Colorado Address Confidentiality Program (ACP), we are proud to serve survivors with discretion and care while building practical pathways to safety and independence.
Our leadership and growth have not gone unnoticed. In 2022, our President and founder Natalee Skye Bingham was honored as Business Leader of the Year by the Colorado LGBT Chamber of Commerce, recognizing her visionary leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to uplifting transgender and queer voices across the state. As an active member of the LGBT Chamber of Commerce, we are deeply connected to a statewide network of inclusive businesses and allies working to redefine success through equity. The Fish Tank continues to rise as a model of grassroots empowerment—led by us, built for us.
